COTTAGE CONNECTION HAS ASSUMED THE ROLE OF RENTAL MANAGER FOR BUSY SHEEPSCOT HARBOUR RESORT

EDGECOMB, ME –May 20, 2010 Jane Price, President of the Sheepscot Harbour Village and Resort Condominium Association, announced today that Cottage Connection in Boothbay has been selected to operate the rental program at the Resort. “Cottage Connection brings 17 years of local experience in property management, vacation rentals and customer service to the Property. We feel very fortunate that a company with Cottage Connection’s reputation and good standing in the community has agreed to join our resort family. Ninety-five percent (95%) of our owners have chosen this community because of its strong rental program and we feel confident that as we go into the new period for the property, Cottage Connection is the perfect organization to manage this program. We are confident that the property owners will enjoy this new level of service. It will be business as usual for the returning visitors.”

Cottage Connection owners, Jeff and Audrey Miller of Boothbay add, “We are honored that the Association has chosen us to manage the rental program at the Sheepscot Resort. We intend to bring the same high standards we have always maintained to this new venture. We hope to have a very positive impact on the community as a whole.”

A Sure Sign of Spring ~ Fisherman’s Festival!

The bulbs are popping up, the temperatures are rising, the birds are singing…and Boothbay Harbor’s Fisherman’s Festival is around the corner…April 23 – 25!

All Maine fishermen are hardy souls, but when it comes to the children of fishermen those in the Boothbay area may have a leg up on other youngsters. Boothbay Harbor’s Annual Fishermen’s Festival takes place is the first chance of the season for coastal children to compete in a lobster crate race. An attempt to run across a string of floating lobster crates between two harbor docks is particularly daring here, because the water temperature is as low as it gets for these fun spectator events.

Other popular events include the cod fish relay race, head-to-head lobster trap hauling and dory bailing competitions, a bubble gum blowing contest, Burnt Island Lighthouse tour and the Miss Shrimp Princess pageant. There’s an arts and crafts show on Saturday, and plenty of delicious food at a pancake breakfast, old fashioned fish fry and church supper. Spectator events take place on the waterfront in Boothbay Harbor.

Lincoln County Scots-Irish Event at Boothbay Railway Museum

Guests to Midcoast Maine enjoy visiting the Boothbay Railway Museum both for it’s wonderful collection and displays as well as many events throughout the summer. We are pleased to announce that they are hosting an event to celebrate 250 years of Scots-Irish Heritage in Lincoln County.

Holidays are an especially fun time to work in the lodging industry. Lots of comings and goings of family and friends, everyone in bit more of a bouyant mood, like we’re all in on a shared adventure. Other times of year, staff is more of an observer of other people’s vacation, business travel, family milestones…we may help facilitate, but we’re not “in on it”…

Right now, we have parents with grown local children staying in the Inn and Lodge, we have grown children from away hosting local parents in a large, comfortable cottage, and we have multiple members of families staying in multiple units for a big family gathering nearby…It’s fun, it’s festive, and we love being a part of it!

Midcoast Wonderland

The leaves are gone from the trees, and while we had a mild late November, the cold fronts have returned and signs of Holiday cheer abound in Midcoast Maine. I’m not a fan of snow before Thanksgiving. It doesn’t seem necessary. We got only a light dusting in November this year, and that’s just fine with me. I am one who does feel that snow on the ground at Christmas is a must (at least for New England states), but I am perfectly okay with that snow arriving on Christmas morning, between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m. so it does not interfere with anyones holiday travel…but that’s just me – I know my winter sports friends do not agree. I would imagine we will all have to split the difference.

That being said – Winter is definitely upon us, and Midcoast Maine is a fantastic place to spend the holidays…The Sheepscot Harbour Village & Resort is open year round with cozy Inn rooms, comfortable Lodge suites and great Cottages from a quaint one bedroom with kitchenette to a multi-bedroom with full kitchen and fireplace for entertaining family or a weekend getaway.

Saturday, December 5th: “25th Annual Harbor Lights Festival” in Boothbay Harbor Village: Carriage rides, tree lighting, caroling, live nativity, boat parade, Santa visits…

December 5th – 8th: “Festival of Trees” at Boothbay Opera House -86 Townsend Ave. This is a fundraiser for the Boothbay Garden Club; bid on beautifully decorated trees and one-of-a-kind gifts.

December 12th – 14th: “Gingerbread Spectacular”, Boothbay Opera House, View dozens of spectacular gingerbread houses. Free!

Saturday, December12: 1030am & 1130 am. ”CLICK Puppet Show “The Gingerbread Man” Located at The Opera House. Its based on an old tale first in print in a May1875 issue of St. Nicholas magazine. Followed by- A Polar Express Train ride!

Friday, December 18: 4-7pm. “Smores & more Holiday party at The Gardens” Bring your warm coats, hats & mittens..and join us over a campfire toasting marshmallows, sipping hot cocoa and apple cider! Christmas music and decorations to up your spirt. It’s free!

Friday, December 4, 11, 18 : 6-8 Pm ” Trolley Caroling ” Bath City Hall-55 Front Street. Passengers will be picked up every half hour at Bath City Hall; bring a blanket, a thermos of hot cocoa and your singing voice for a ride on the trolley through picturesque downtown Bath.

Saturday, December 12: 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm “Candy Cane Train Rides” Bath Train Station- 15 Commercial Street. Take a scenic holiday ride, roundtrip from Bath to Wiscasset. Hot Chocolate & cookies to be served, plus, Santa & his elves will be on board.

Maine Fall Foliage Season Begins (Ready or Not!)

There is one tree across the street from the Inn which always turns very early. I’ve been eyeing it suspiciously for weeks now. The early summer rain and cool temperatures gave us a short summer, and as we found ourselves finally revelling in the “summer” of mid-August, I was not looking forward to that little tree being the harbinger of Fall. It’s turned now, and it’s okay. Fall in Maine is a wonderful, wonderful time. It sunny and mild during the day, with cooler nights and crisp mornings which somehow bring the day into focus, bringing a special clarity to the air and the view and your thoughts. (really!)

Maine has some breathtaking scenery. In the fall – the tree-lined drive to your destination is just as breathtaking. Want to enjoy the season to it’s fullest? Enjoy the Coastal Botanical Gardens, view the foliage from the water on a custom boat tour, visit an apple orchard, a fair or other autumn event! There is so much to do in such a short, glorious season!

Midcoast Maine for the Outdoor Enthusiast

Okay, last week we focused on what to do during inclement weather in Maine so this way we’ll let the pendulum swing all the way back to the great things to do OUTSIDE as we go into fair weather.

Let’s break it into categories…

Walking/Hiking: We at the resort are big fans of the Dodge Point preserve in Newcastle and the Coastal Botanical Gardens in Boothbay.

Fishing: We like to leave this to the professionals! Contact Kennebec Angler in Bath or White Anchor Bait & Tackle in Boothbay if you plan to strike out on your own. For fishing charters – contact Maine Saltwater Outfitters!

Boating: Captain Ed Rice of River Run Tours will pick you right up at the pier for 2 hour, 1/2 day and full-day customized trips. (for up to 6!) Midcoast Kayak will be running tours for all levels of experience – Sundays 9 – noon and Wednesdays at 1:30. You can also take the short ride from the resort to Boothbay Harbour for sightseeing and whale watching trips.

Sightseeing: Well, this is a broad subject – take a drive to Ocean Point, enjoy an afternoon at Pemaquid Lighthouse, take the short walk across the bridge into Wiscasset. We are within 30 minutes of 4 sandy beaches, open ocean and a myriad of quaint fishing villages….more sightseeing than you can fit into one trip. Shopping: Remember, for this mission, we’re keeping the activity out of doors! On Wednesday, Saturdays and Sundays, visit Montsweag Flea Market for antiques, collectibles and miscellaneous treasures! Visit the Maine Heritage Village in Wiscasset or local farmer’s markets in Bath, Boothbay and Damariscotta.

Eating: Just across the bridge from the resort, visit Sprague’s or Red’s Eats. (sneak into Lear’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream next to Red’s – but eat it outdoors!) After your trip to Pemaquid, hop on over to Shaw’s Wharf in New Harbor. Finishing up shopping and sightseeing in Boothbay? Head to the Lobsterman’s Wharf or the former Lobsterman’s Co-op, now Boothbay Lobster Wharf!

As I write this, the sun is shining and it’s a beautiful day, so I’m going to head out and take some of my own advice! Enjoy!

Maine on an Iffy-Weather Weekend? Plenty to do!

I firmly believe that there are a plethora of interesting things to do indoors in Maine which get far too little attention due to our frequent blue skies and breathtaking views…(not that I’m complaining when the skies are blue). While relaxing in your cottage at the resort and listening to the rain on the roof as you nap is perfectly acceptable, it’s good to know you have options. Maine is full of great little downtowns…Wiscasset, Damariscotta, Bath, Hallowell….places where you can park (for free!) and dash in and out of the raindrops for leisurely poking around of gift shops, eclectic clothing boutiques, antique stores, bookstores, coffee shops, specialty shops and more! In addition, we have fantastic museums in the Midcoast. From the Peary-MacMillan Museum at Bowdoin to the Musical Wonderhouse in Wiscasset to the Farnsworth in Rockland, more indoor items of interest than you can possibly fit into a weekend! So many in fact, they are too lengthy to list …click here to download.
